The Biochemical Society supports a diverse programme of events and resources: from school science websites, teachers' workshops, outreach events, studentship grants, school visits, careers information to young researchers' symposia.
We are embedded in the educational sector and the aspect of our work that most clearly underpins our charitable status is that done in schools, universities and with the general public.
In schools, we seek to excite the next generation of young bioscientists so that, when they reach adulthood, they will have a better understanding of the key biological challenges faced by mankind and may wish to work in the sector.
We seek to support the training of students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, through grants, studentships and other focussed activities. We also strive to help them develop a better understanding of their career options after graduation or further training.
Amongst the general public, we seek to foster an understanding of the key scientific issues that underpin the challenges faced by humankind.
The specialist niches traditionally occupied by individual learned societies have limited significance to biological education at all levels. Therefore, in fulfilling its educational role, the Biochemical Society will always seek to work with sister organisations and the Society of Biology.
