2017 Biochemical Society Elections

 

Following the recent review of Biochemical Society governance, the first phase of nominations is now open for the 2017 Biochemical Society Elections, for candidates who wish to stand for the vacant committee positions listed below.

 

If you wish to nominate yourself, or a colleague, for any of the positions listed below, please complete an application form and return to Zoe Halbert, Executive Assistant (zoe.halbert@biochemistry.org) by 11th December 2016.  



All applications will be reviewed against the relevant Terms of Reference.  A shortlist of candidates maybe interviewed by a panel of Trustees, after which a ballot will open if appropriate.  In the instance that only one suitable candidate is nominated, that nominee will be considered elected unopposed.

Vacant positions:


President

A five year role (commencing on 1 January 2018) which will promote and pursue the aims of the Biochemical Society within both the UK and internationally.  By acting as the Chairperson of the Biochemical Society Council of Trustees, the President will be the strategic head of the Society (delegating the operational governance leadership of the Society to the Chair of the Executive Management Committee).

Council of Trustees

The Council of Trustees takes overall collective responsibility for the activities and direction of the Biochemical Society. There are three positions vacant on the Council of Trustees:

 

  • Local Ambassador Representative
  • Student/Early Career Member
  • Industry Representative

Executive Management Committee

The Executive Management Committee has the delegated authority to review, instruct and govern the ongoing activities of the Society in line with the scientific, community and operational strategy set by the Council of Trustees. There is one vacant position on the Executive Management Committee:

 

  • Independent Member (Biochemical Society Member, not otherwise appointed to a Society committee)

 Publications Committee


Publications Committee ensures that all Biochemical Society publishing products and services are relevant, and serve and provide value for the Society and the molecular bioscience community. There are currently four vacancies:

 

  • Industry Representative
  • Member with specific experience related to magazine publishing or Science Communication
  • Early Career Reseracher Representative
  • Librarian/Information Professional*

*Please note that nominees for this position need not be members of the Biochemical Society.


 

Clinical and Translational Research Theme Panel

Nominations are also open for members of the Clinical and Translational Research Theme Panel.

The panel will consist of eight members who will be selected on the basis of an open call to members and non-members, from experienced biochemists, ideally with expertise in the following subject areas:

 

  • Aging
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular System & Vascular Biology
  • Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders
  • Diagnostics & Biomarkers
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastrointestinal, Renal & Hepatic Systems
  • Immunology & Inflammation
  • Molecular Bases of Health & Disease
  • Neuroscience
  • Pharmacology & Toxicology
  • Respiratory System
  • Therapeutics & Molecular Medicine
  • Stem Cells
