The biogeochemical nitrogen cycle involves the inter-conversion of nitrogen species between a number of redox states and includes the processes denitrification, nitrification, nitrogen fixation and ammonification. Reductive and oxidative reactions involving inorganic nitrogen species provide a rich variety of systems with which to integrate studies on biochemistry, bioenergetics, molecular genetics and whole cell physiology with the environmental impacts and industrial applications of the processes. This meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for those with interests in redox reactions of the nitrogen cycle to meet and discuss recent advances in the field. The aim of the meeting will be to encourage younger scientists to present their current work in an informal setting and to stimulate the flow of current thoughts and ideas. The young scientists will all talk in sessions in which one or more contributions will also be made by invited speakers with high international profiles in the field. The proposed sessions will include; Biochemistry of NOx reduction and oxidation; Regulation of nitrogen metabolism; Anaerobic and aerobic ammonium oxidation; Applied and environmental aspects of N-cycle redox reactions.
Proceedings will be published in Biochemical Society Transactions
