Travelling to the venue
On arrival please come to the Porters' Lodge on the Woodstock Road. The following information should help you to locate us.
On foot or by bicycle
Pedestrians and cyclists are welcomed at St Anne's, with ample provision of bicycle racks on College property. There is also a side gate adjacent to these racks for use by members of the College during the day. Visitors should come to the Lodge on Woodstock Road, where they will be directed to the bicycle storage area. For information on cycle routes in Oxford, please consult the Oxfordshire County Council website.
By car
The city centre is best avoided by approaching College from the north on the A4165 Banbury Road or A4144 Woodstock Road, both of which are accessible from the ring road. Sat Nav users should enter the postcode OX2 6HT.
If using the M40 from the north leave at Junction 9, but from the south-east leave at Junction 8. However, on-road parking near College is near impossible, and unauthorized parking in College is prohibited. In some cases, a short stay parking permit can be arranged in advance by your host.
Park-and-ride
There are five park-and-rides available on the outskirts of Oxford, so you are sure to find one no matter from which direction you have driven. They are all clearly sign-posted, linked to the centre of the city by regular bus services, and open 24 hours per day (bus services run until about 9.30 pm).
By rail
There are frequent direct trains to Oxford station from London Paddington and regular links northwards via Birmingham, southwards via Reading, and westwards via Didcot. Railtrack have an online timetable. The station is a 15 minute walk from St Anne's, but there is of course a taxi rank at the station.
By coach
There are very frequent services from London Victoria Station and operated by Oxford Bus Company (‘Oxford Espress’) and Stagecoach (‘Oxford Tube’), as well as from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. A rather less frequent service connects with Birmingham International airports. There are connections with many other parts of the country, including a direct service to Cambridge. The central bus and coach depot (Gloucester Green) is a 10 minute walk south of the College.
By air
The most convenient arrival airport is London Heathrow, from which there is a frequent express coach service to Oxford (see above). London Gatwick is a little further, but again there is direct coach service to and from Oxford.

Registration fees and forms
Attendance at the 73rd Harden Conference is decided by an application process. Please note that acceptance is not automatic. All applications will be considered by the Organizers of the Harden Conference, and delegates will be informed of the outcome approximately 3 weeks after the early application deadline of 21 May 2012. Under the terms of a Harden Conference no day delegates will be allowed. The Conference is fully residential.

Registration includes four nights accommodation (19, 20, 21 and 22 August) in a single en suite room (note; students will have a shared bathroom) and all meals (breakfasts, lunches, refreshments and evening meals) including the conference dinner on 22 August.

Confirmation email
At the final stage of the online registration process, all registered delegates will be directed to a confirmation page and receive a separate email to confirm registration details. This confirmation should be checked carefully to ensure that all requirements are correct. In particular, the spelling of names and affiliations should be checked, as this information will be used to create badges.
Confirmation emails also act as a receipt. Please bring a copy of the email with you to the meeting.
If you have not received a confirmation email two weeks before the meeting, please contact the Conference Office.

Registering at the meeting
Please bring your confirmation email to present at the registration desk at the meeting. Badges will be issued upon registering and, for security reasons, must be worn for the duration of the meeting.

Harden Bursaries
Travel bursaries and full or partly sponsored free places are available for graduate students and those who gained their PhD in the last 5 years. Preference will be given to senior graduate students and restricted to members of the Biochemical Society and relevant associated Societies.
To apply for a Harden Bursary, please supply the relevant information on the conference application form.
All Harden Bursary applicants will be informed approximately two weeks after the application deadline whether the application has been successful.
Please note that Harden Conferences are often over-subscribed, and many applications are not accepted. Please do not make travel arrangements until you have been informed, in writing, that your application has been accepted.

Oxford Physics Department - Student places
The Physics Department at Oxford University will sponsor three free student places to attend the Harden Conference (including meals and accommodation and a contribution towards travel costs). These places will be chosen by the organizing committee from the applications and the abstracts received. The allocation of the places will depend entirely on the quality of the science in the abstract and will intend to find excellent students who the University of Oxford can fund to attend the conference. Abstract Submission Guidelines
The maximum number of words allowed in your abstract body is 230. Please note that author details will be added on the final page of the submission process (do not add your author list or affiliation details to either of the fields on this page). The preferred method for submission is to type your abstract straight into the online submission form, or alternatively paste the text from a word-processed document. The ‘Full title’ should be presented sentence case (not in Title Case or BLOCK CAPITALS), that is only the first letter of the title or appropriate terms such as abbreviations or proper nouns should be upper case. Please do not include tables, figures or references in the abstract as these will be removed before your abstract is published.
Has my abstract been accepted?
After submitting your abstract you should receive a submission number which will identify your abstract. If you have not received a submission number, then please contact the Conference Office.
Approximately 2 weeks after the abstract submission deadline has passed, you will receive an email informing you whether your poster has been accepted or not and informing you of your poster number and session time.
All poster abstracts will be available to view online two weeks prior to the meeting.
Poster Board size: 1m wide x 2m high (portrait).
Velcro to mount your poster will be provided at the meeting.
The Biochemical Society is working with the new open access poster repository, F1000 Posters, to host online the posters from this event. Authors will be asked if they wish to deposit a PDF of their poster presentation(s) from this meeting once their abstract has been accepted.
Faculty of 1000 is expanding its award-winning post-publication literature evaluation service by including evaluations of posters from across the major life science and medical conferences. The Faculty of ~10,000 world-renowned experts will be regularly reviewing new posters deposited in F1000 Posters for selection and evaluation in F1000. The selection of poster PDFs for evaluation will bring the attention of a much wider audience than can be achieved by attending a single conference.

Biochemical Society Poster Prize
The Biochemical Society Poster Prize was awarded to Andrea Candelli (Department of Physics and Astronomy, VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands) for his poster entitled "Single-molecule visualization of the helical dance of the non-homologous end-joining machinery".

Single en suite accommodation for 19, 20, 21 and 22 August 2012 is included in the Full Member and Non Member registration fees.

Refunds
Cancellations will be accepted in writing until 3 August 2012, and a refund (less £15 administration charge) will be issued.
After this date, neither full nor partial refunds can be given. Please note that refunds of less than £15 cannot be issued.

Official letters of invitation
Official letters of invitation, which are intended to assist with administrative arrangements in certain countries will only be issued when the individual has completed the following criteria:
1) Submitted an abstract which has been approved by the meeting scientific organizer for inclusion into the relevant meeting
2) Sent a letter from the head of their academic department on University headed paper saying why they need to attend the meeting in relation to their research
3) Registered and paid for the meeting
Such letters do not imply commitment of financial or other support by the organizers

Harden Conferences
Proceedings and abstracts of Harden Conferences are unpublished, in order to promote the exchange of novel information and ideas. Delegates are asked to respect the closed nature of the conferences, and not to report information discussed via Twitter, Facebook, blogs and similar social networks.
Focused Meetings and Annual Symposia
The Biochemical Society encourages the discussion of its conferences via Twitter, Facebook and similar social networks. In order to promote discussion and the exchange of information, delegates who wish to tweet are asked to use the Biochemical Society hashtag:

Speakers will be made aware of this policy, and have the right to ask delegates not to disseminate their research via the Internet. If a Speaker makes this request, delegates are asked not to discuss the relevant work in this way. Delegates are respectfully asked to refrain from communicating using mobile devices whilst lectures are in progress.

Continuing Professional Development
73rd Harden Conference - Machines on genes II - The central dogma at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics has been approved for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Society of Biology. Participants can claim 120 credits for attending. These points are valid if attendees are registered on the Society of Biology CPD scheme. Approval signifies that the Society of Biology recognizes the 73rd Harden Conference - Machines on genes II - The central dogma at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics event is of merit to the development needs of participants. Attendees can request a CPD certificate for this conference whilst completing the post event feedback questionnaire, which will be sent by email to all attendees shortly after the event.
