The 675th meeting of The Biochemical Society is a joint meeting with The Physiological Society and will take place at The University of York. Centrally located in the UK, the medieval city of York is easily accessible by road, rail and air. York will appeal to all delegates and offers a range of activities and fascinating venues to complement the formal programme. Furthermore, the surrounding areas hold a wealth of attractions for visitors.

York
York is one of Britains finest historical cities, and has been a meeting place for business and pleasure since Roman times. Located on the River Ouse, York has the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe containing some of the finest stained glass in the world, and will not fail to delight visitors. Treasurers House, situated in the heart of York holds, a fascinating collection of furniture and artefacts, Barley Hall and the Georgian Fairfax House all provide an insight into Yorks past. There is an opportunity to stroll along the city walls, take a leisurely riverboat cruise or a ghost walk. Christmas shopping is excellent in York where streets are pedestrianised and crammed with shops to suit everyones needs. York has many good restaurants, wine bars and cafs, theatres and an art gallery.

Travel
By rail: York is on the main East Coast Line from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Fast trains leave from both North and South at frequent intervals. There is also a direct service across the Pennines between York, Leeds and Manchester Airport. The University is 2 miles from the railway station and delegates are advised to take a bus (No. 4) or taxi to the campus.
By air: There are 4 major airports within 2 hours drive Leeds/Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle and Humberside. There are also train connections available to York Railway Station. For more information contact Railtrack directly: ++44 (0) 8457 48 49 50. (www.railtrack.co.uk)
By taxi: A journey by taxi from the railway station to the University will take approximately 15 minutes. There is a taxi rank just outside the station.
By bus: You can reach York by coach from many destinations around the country. National Express have an online coach timetable (www.gobycoach.com). The bus from York railway station to the University is the No. 4. The scheduled journey time from the station to Heslington (the York Campus) is 20 minutes.
By car: Visitors approaching York from the A64 should turn off at one of the exits marked University, in order to avoid the City Centre. Subsequent turns are also signposted. Visitors coming from other directions should either:
Take the Selby Road to Fulford and turn along Heslington Lane or Broadway to Heslington Hall Take the Hull Road and turn right at the first traffic lights into Green Dykes Lane which leads to University Road.
