Getting to the Western Infirmary

By Air
Glasgow is serviced by two international airports - Glasgow International Airport and Prestwick International Airport.

Glasgow International Airport is a 15-minute drive from central Glasgow and provides direct access to and from major European and North American destinations, and there are approximately 5 return flights on the London route per day. A taxi from the airport will cost around 16 with a journey time of 15 minutes.

From the airport there is a shuttle bus that runs into the city centre (Buchanan Bus Station), the number 905 which stops at the arrivals building at Glasgow Airport.

By Rail
Glasgow's Central Station is connected with every city in the UK, while Queen Street Station serves central and northern Scotland.
For timetable and price details call +44 (0) 845 484950 or visit the National Rail Enquiries web site.
From Glasgow Central Station or Queen Street Station the easiest way to get to the Western Infirmary is to take the short walk to Buchanan Street Station were you can catch the underground train to either Hillhead or Kelvinhall Station, both of which are a few minutes walk from the Western Infirmary.

By Coach
National Express (+44 (0) 8705 808080) coaches run services to Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station from throughout the UK.

From Buchanan Street Station you can take the underground train to either Hillhead or Kelvinhall Station, both of which are a few minutes walk from the Western Infirmary.

By Car
Glasgow is at the centre of a first class motorway and truck road network linking with every part of the UK and Ireland, allowing easy access and departure from the City Centre.

Plan a route using the RAC website.

Internet Access

Internet access is not available at the Western Infirmary.

Please check with your hotel regarding the facilities there.

Travelling within Glasgow

By Bus
Route 44 runs through the main campus from the City Centre. Numerous other routes serve Dumbarton Roaf, Great Western Road and Byres Road.

Underground
The main station for the Western Infirmary is Hillhead. Kelvinhall and Kelvinbridge stations are more convenient for some locations.

Local Trains
The nearest suburban rail station is Partick, about 1 mile to the west of the University. It has an interchange with the underground and with bus services on Dumbarton Road

Taxis
Most firms provide a safe and reliable service but there are a lot of unlicensed and bogus mini-cabs around - so it is wise to remember these guidelines.

Hackney Carriages / 'black cabs' (identified by the 'TAXI' sign on the roof) can be easily flagged down from the pavement.

Private Car Hire Services (including mini-cabs) can only be booked in advance by telephone. Both types display official licence plates on the outside of the vehicle and all legitimate drivers carry identification cards. It is advisable never to get into a private hire car/mini-cab you have not ordered.

For further infomation please visit Strathclyde Passenger Transport or National Rail Enquiries.
