Resolution of inflammatory responses: signalling networks and novel therapeutic strategies

6 October 2006

Wolfson Conference Centre, Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK

Meeting background

The resolution of inflammatory responses is a tightly co-ordinated, active process that limits inflammation to the acute phase. It prevents prolonged inflammation, which can damage tissues and trigger diseases such as atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and rejection of transplanted organs. Recent studies have shown that inflammation is resolved through the concerted action of numerous anti-inflammatory mechanisms, which operate at multiple levels. The molecular mechanisms underlying the resolution of inflammatory responses, will be the topic of this Focussed Meeting. The first session will concentrate on events occurring at the cell surface, including the endocytosis of pro-inflammatory receptors and the modulatory effects of receptor antagonists. Session 2 will include presentations on anti-inflammatory mechanisms that are known to suppress intracellular signalling pathways (Toby Lawrence), or transcription factors (Kazuhiro Ito). Finally, Session 3 will include presentations on mechanisms, that regulate apoptosis in granulocytes and macrophages (Paul Kirkham and Adriano Rossi).

Venue

The meeting will take place at the Wolfson Conference Centre on the Hammersmith Campus of The Imperial College London (map).
