The British Society for Matrix Biology
The British Society for Matrix Biology (formerly known as the British Connective Tissue Society - BCTS) is a `learned society' which was started in 1980, with a membership of over 500 consisting of professional and student researchers drawn from diverse scientific backgrounds (biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, clinical, physical chemistry, etc.) and include those in Academia, Industry and Medicine. As you might expect, most of its members reside in the UK, however they do have a few members from the USA, Far East, Australia and Europe.
The objectives of the Society are:
To advance the science of connective tissue and related subjects. To promote public education therein. To promote study and research work on connective tissues and related areas and to publish the results of such study and research.

BSMB bursaries
Two kinds of BSMB bursaries are available for this meeting. Please see the BSMB website for information and application forms.
Application for Conference Presentation Bursaries
Members of BSMB may apply for bursaries to assist in expenses associated with attending the Spring or Autumn BSMB meetings or other selected meetings such as those organised by the Federation of the European Connective Tissues Societies (FECTS). Young members of the Society are encouraged to apply for bursaries.
Applicants should be submitting an abstract and presenting a poster for the meeting to be attended. The work described in the abstract must be novel and of a quality that would reflect well as a BSMB supported contribution.
Applicants should be at an early stage of their career and unlikely to have access to travel funds. For this reason emphasis is given to young researchers such as graduate students and early post-docs.
Bursaries will only be considered if they are submitted on a current BSMB Bursary application form. Applications should be sent to the committee member responsible for Bursaries as described below and not to the meeting organiser. The application should be accompanied by a copy of the abstract to be presented at the meeting and a one page curriculum vitae.
The deadline for receipt of bursaries applications to attend meetings will be noted in the current Connective Issues newsletter and on the website in the BSMB Meetings page. The applications will be reviewed rapidly by the Committee and applicants will be informed of the outcome well in advance of the meeting registration deadline.
Application for Conference Reporter Bursaries
This category of bursary is available to any member of the BSMB on the condition that they participate (ideally together with 2 other bursary recipients) in producing the written report of the conference for the next issue of Connective Issues and for the International Journal of Experimental Pathology.
Bursaries will only be considered if they are submitted on a current BSMB Bursary application form and should be accompanied by a one page c.v. The Support statement should be limited to a statement from your supervisor (if appropriate) that he/she is willing for you to attend the meeting and subsequently prepare a written report of the presentations for publication in Connective Issues and in the International Journal of Experimental Pathology. Applications should be sent to the committee member responsible for Bursaries as described below and not to the meeting organiser.
