Travelling to the venue

The Renold Building is a 15-minute car journey from Manchester International Airport. A taxi from the airport will cost approximately 15. Alternatively, there is a frequent train service to Piccadilly and Oxford Road train stations.
By Coach There are good connections to Manchester from most cities in Britain, plus international routes from Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.
The National Express coach station is located in Chorlton Street in the City Centre. For National Express bookings telephone +44 (0) 8705 808080 or visit National Express for further details.
Sackville Street is within walking distance of the National Express Coach Station. Turn right out of the Coach Station onto Chorlton Street and walk to the junction with Whitworth Street. Cross Whitworth Street and the Sackville Street part of the campus is straight ahead.
Local Buses and Trams Services to Sackville Street include: Metrolink Trams - various lines to Piccadilly station, which is a short walk away. Buses along London Road: 107, 192, 196, 201, 203, 204, 205, 206, 373. Bus along Sackville Street: 140.

By Train Manchester has three main train stations, Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria, all are located near the City Centre. The nearest train station to the venue is Manchester Piccadilly, a 10 minute walk.
Upon arriving at the train station, head for the escalators to the left of the concourse, following the signs for 'Taxis'/Fairfield Street. Immediately outside the station main entrance, turn right and cross London Road to the Bulls Head pub. Keeping the Bulls Head on your right walk down London Road & turn right immediately after the railway viaduct, onto Altrincham Street. Continue straight ahead, and to your left you will see the Barnes Wallis Building, Staff House and the Renold Building.

By car
M6/ M56 (northbound) Exit the M6 at J19 taking the third exit at the roundabout onto Chester Road A566. Continue straight ahead onto A50. At the major roundabout bear right onto the M56. Follow the M56 until it turns into the A5103 signposted for the city centre. Take the A5103 into the centre of Manchester until you reach a major roundabout with an overpass. Take the third exit at the roundabout onto the Mancunian Way. Shortly bear left onto Cambridge Street. Take the second exit at the next roundabout. Continue straight ahead onto the Mancunian Way A57. Bear left again onto A57 and continue straight ahead onto Sackville Street.
M62 (westbound) Take the M62 west to Manchester. Exit motorway at J20 following the A627 to Oldham. Continue straight ahead onto Broadway A663. Bear right onto Oldham Road A62. Continue straight ahead onto Portland Street A5103. Turn left onto Princess Street.
M62 (eastbound) Take the M62 east to Manchester. Exit at J12 onto the M602 Eccles bypass. Continue straight ahead onto the A57. Bear left onto the Mancunian Way A57. Bear left again onto the A57 and continue straight ahead onto Sackville Street.
M6 (southbound) Take the M6 south. As you approach the outskirts of Manchester, continue straight ahead onto the M61. Shortly after, continue straight onto the M60. Continue straight ahead onto the M62 and bear right onto the M602 Eccles Bypass. Continue straight ahead onto the A57. Bear left onto the Mancunian Way A57. Bear left onto the A57 and continue straight ahead onto Sackville Street.
The nearest car park is on Charles Street just off Sackville Street.

Registration fees include refreshments, lunches, a buffet dinner on 26 March and the Meeting dinner on 27 March.

All registered delegates will receive a confirmation email to confirm registration details. This email should be checked carefully to ensure that all requirements are correct. In particular, the spelling of names and affiliations should be checked, as this information will be used to create badges.

Student travel grants
The maximum student travel grant available is 150 and includes: Registration fees (up to 50) Accommodation (up to 50) Travel (up to a maximum of 50)
The following principles apply to application for a Student Travel Grant:
1. Students can apply for a Travel Grant if they are a member of the Biochemical Society by the poster abstract submission deadline and have submitted a poster abstract.
2. Students can only apply for one Student Travel Grant in a year.
3. Students are not eligible for a Student Travel Grant if they have already received funding from the General Travel Fund in that same year.
4. All student members of the Biochemical Society are entitled to apply for these Travel Grants and this entitlement will extend to PhD graduates for up two years after graduation and to foreign student members in respect of travel in the UK and Irish Republic.
How to apply: A registration form for the Meeting should be completed and submitted to Portland Customer Services. Registration is either online or via printable PDF. A copy of this form should also be sent to the Meetings Office along with the Student Travel Grant Application Form.
Grant applications received four weeks prior to the meeting will be available for collection at the meeting (cheque only); however, you may apply for a grant at the Registration Desk, or up to four weeks after the meeting.
Subject to approval, applicants will receive a cheque for the appropriate amount. The maximum amount for travel expenses that will be reimbursed will be at the level of the current Young Persons Railcard fare. If the application does not use up the full amount of the Grant, the balance cannot be transferred to another meeting.

Poster abstract submission
Poster abstract submission is now closed
Has my abstract been accepted? If you do not receive a submission number, please email meetings@biochemistry.org immediately.
Approximately 2 weeks after the abstract submission deadline has passed, you will receive an email informing you whether your poster has been accepted or not and informing you of your poster number and session time.
All poster abstracts will be available to view online two weeks prior to the meeting.
Posters will be displayed for the duration of the Meeting. Each poster has been assigned a number, which will appear in the programme book.

Presenting authors are requested to stand alongside their posters during TWO of the three poster sessions as follows:

The Poster Sessions will take place in the main concourse of the Renolds building alongside the trade exhibition.
Poster board size: 1m wide x 2m high

Five authors selected from abstracts will present a 15-minute oral communication, and will be required to answer questions related to their work. The presentations will take place during the main scientific sessions as follows:

The winner will receive a 600 cash prize, a unique trophy and the title of 'Promega UK Young Biochemist 2008' Second prize 400 Third prize 200 All three winners will receive a years subscription to Science magazine.
The Biochemical Journal Poster Prize
Entrants must be PhD students or post doctoral scientists within 7 years of receiving their PhD.
The winner will receive a cheque for 250 and a host of Biochemical Journal Goodies.
To enter, please collect a sticker from the Portland Press stand before the start of your poster session.

Official letters of invitation, which are intended to assist with administrative arrangements in certain countries will only be issued when the individual has completed the following criteria:
1) Submitted an abstract which has been approved by the meeting scientific organizer for inclusion into the relevant meeting
2) Sent a letter from the head of their academic department on University headed paper saying why they need to attend the meeting in relation to their research
3) Registered and paid for the meeting Such letters do not imply commitment of financial or other support by the organizers
