St Martin's College, Ambleside, Lake District, UK

Poster Submission

Poster abstract submission
Submission of poster abstracts is online only, and the deadline for poster abstract submission is Friday 14 June 2002.

Click here to go directly to the online abstract submission page

Note that abstract submission is now a three-step process and you must complete all steps to successfully submit your abstract.

Abstract Length
The maximum number of words allowed in your entire abstract is 230 words. This includes the Title, Authors, Addresses AND Abstract body. Please do not type two spaces after a full stop (at the end of a sentence) as this will reduce the number of words that you will be allowed to include in your abstract.

The preferred method for submission is to type your abstract straight into the online submission form using the buttons on the form to add special characters or formatting. However it is also possible to paste text from a word-processed document as long as formatting and special characters are added via the buttons on the online submission form.

Has my abstract been accepted?
Once you click the 'submit' button, the online submission page will change to a submission confirmation page and you will immediately receive a unique control number which will identify your abstract. If you do not receive a control number, then please email support@portlandpress.com immediately. Approximately 2 weeks after the abstract submission deadline has passed, you will receive an email informing you that your poster has been accepted.

Venue

The picturesque campus of St Martin's College lies within the town of Ambleside, one of the most beautiful towns in the Lake District, Cumbria.

The Ambleside campus is located on the north side of the village in attractively landscaped gardens and occupies 15 acres.

Ambleside

With the arrival of the railway and the steam yachts came the development of tourism which still thrives today. This spectacular scenery has inspired academics and students of the day including many famous writers and poets - such as William Wordsworth, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter, who became a true conservationist of the area.

For more information on this historic and interesting town follow the following links:
>Places to visit : Ambleside or Ambleside online.

Travel

St Martin's College is ideally placed for access to the motorway system (M6) as welll as the major airports of Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow and stations on the West Coast railway line.
The campus is located on the right hand side of the road just after leaving the town centre in the direction of Rydal, directly opposite the Main Police Station.

Further information will be gained by visiting the college website at :
http://www.ucsm.ac.uk/location/ambleside.php.

By Train

The nearest station is in Windermere, about 5 miles from Ambleside, with connections from Oxenholme station, which is on the main London Euston - Glasgow line. From Oxenholme delegates should take a local bus ("Stagecoach Cumberland", approximately every half hour) or taxi to Ambleside. The bus fare is approx 1.50 each way and the taxi is approx 6.00. Connections between any starting point and Windermere can be found by visiting:
www.railtrack.co.uk or www.thetrainline.co.uk

By Air

Manchester Airport: The closest and most convienient airport, from here trains run directly to Windermere and the journey and takes about 2-3 hours, depending on a connection, and the return fare is 17.40. The train timetables can be found on the Railtrack Website, type Manchester Airport and Windermere as the initial and final points (www.railtrack.co.uk).

Liverpool Airport: There are now a number of low cost services to Liverpool airport from Europe (e.g. Easyjet). However connections between Liverpool Airport and Ambleside are less convienient than from Manchester.

By Car

Leave the M6, if travelling South at Junction 36 and take the A591 (following the signs to Keswick). The A591 forms the main road through Ambleside and the campus is located on the right hand side of the road just after leaving the town centre, directly after the police station.
If coming from the north, leave the M6 at junction 40 (Penrith) and take the A66 for Threlkeld, St John's-in-the-Vale and the A591 to Ambleside. Parking on site will be available and free of charge.
PLEASE NOTE:
The conference will be in August so the traffic will be heavy.

Accommodation

All registered delegates will be staying in single or twin ensuite and single study bedrooms on Campus and rooms will be available from Tuesday 20 until Saturday 24 August 2002.
Study bedrooms are standard student rooms with handbasins in the rooms. Toilet/shower facilities are shared between 5/6 rooms. The accommodation is spread between seven houses, some across the road from the College and some in cottages/houses situated on Campus grounds.
