Travelling to the venue
Sheffields central location makes it a convenient venue for delegates from the UK and Europe.
By air
The University of Sheffield is just one hour away from regional airports at Leeds-Bradford, East Midlands and Manchester.
The new Robin Hood Doncaster Airport, opened in May 2005, is 35 minutes from central Sheffield.

By train
Sheffield is at the heart of the rail network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St Pancras, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. The journey from London St Pancras to Sheffield takes approximately two and a half hours without any interchanges.

By bus
The 40 bus service departs from the transport interchange (stand D6); it runs every 10 minutes during daytime weekdays and Saturdays, and every 20 minutes until midnight in the evening and Sundays. Ask for the Endcliffe Crescent stop. The 80 bus also runs close to The Edge.
By car
Parking on the Endcliffe Village site is very restricted; there is some on-site parking which may be used if you pre-arrange a permit. There is on-road parking in the surrounding streets.
From the north, south and east (M1, M18)
Approach Sheffield on the M1 and leave the motorway at Junction 33, following the City Centre signs along the dual carriageway A630/A57/A61 Parkway, which ends in a large roundabout – Park Square. From here, take the third exit, the A61(S), along Sheaf Street, following the Ring Road and University signs, and passing the railway station on the left. At Granville Square turn right onto the Ring Road and continue straight on as far as the third roundabout, the Brook Hill roundabout. Take the first exit (Brook Hill), and continue for about one mile/ 1500 metres, past the University and Children’s Hospital. Go straight on at all the traffic lights, and continue ahead into Fulwood Road. Turn second left into Endcliffe Crescent.
From the west (A57 Snake Pass)
Follow the ‘City Centre’ signs. About 300 metres after the BP filling station, turn right into Shore Lane. At the bottom turn left and then right into Endcliffe Crescent.

Social programme
Drinks reception and Networking Event
Monday 11 January 17:00 – 19:00
The Networking Event aims to bring people together with common interests and give people a chance to meet briefly and stimulate further collaboration with each other. The Networking Event will take the form of a speed dating style event with 5 sessions lasting around 10 – 12 minutes each. Delegates with common interests will be placed together in groups of 2 or 3 people. Keywords of interest can be selected from the registration form and all attendees will be given a schedule with their session times upon arrival at the venue. The networking event will take place in the bar at The Edge and drinks and refreshments will be provided. All delegates are welcome to attend. Please note that registration for this networking event is now closed. If you wish to attend, please contact the Conference Office.

Firth Hall is number 105 on the campus map
Firth Hall is located in Firth Court which is an old red brick building on the northern side of Western Bank. To get to Firth Hall, enter the main entrance which faces Western Bank, walk up the main staircase and when you get to the first floor you will be facing Firth Hall. The building was opened by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1905, the same year that Sheffield University was granted its royal charter and officially came into being. Firth Hall is named after Sheffield steel manufacturer Mark Firth who played a key role Sheffield University's early development. The building originally housed the University's Arts, Science and Medicine departments.

Registration includes lunch and refreshments throughout the conference and the conference dinner on 11 January 2010. Accommodation is not included in the registration fees and delegates are advised to make their own arrangements.

All payments must be made prior to the meeting. Please note that invoices for registration fees will not be issued.

Confirmation email
As the final stage of the online registration process, all registered delegates will receive a confirmation page and a separate email to confirm registration details. This confirmation should be checked carefully to ensure that all requirements are correct. In particular, the spelling of names and affiliations should be checked, as this information will be used to create badges.
Confirmation emails also act as a receipt. Please bring a copy of the email with you to the meeting.
If you have not received a confirmation email two weeks before the meeting, please contact the Conference Office.

Registering at the meeting
Please bring your confirmation email to present at the registration desk at the meeting. Badges will be issued upon registering and, for security reasons, must be worn for the duration of the meeting.

Student travel grants
The maximum student travel grant available is £150 and includes:
Registration fees (up to £50)
Accommodation (up to £50)
Travel (up to a maximum of £50)
The following principles apply to application for a Student Travel Grant:
1. Students can apply for a Travel Grant if they are a member of the Biochemical Society by the poster abstract submission deadline and have submitted a poster abstract.
2. Students can only apply for one Student Travel Grant in a year.
3. Students are not eligible for a Student Travel Grant if they have already received funding from the General Travel Fund in that same year.
4. All student members of the Biochemical Society are entitled to apply for these Travel Grants and this entitlement will extend to PhD graduates for up two years after graduation and to foreign student members in respect of travel in the UK and Irish Republic.
How to apply:
The online registration form for the meeting should be completed along with the Student Travel Grant Application Form.
Grant applications received four weeks prior to the meeting will be available for collection at the meeting (cheque only); however, you may apply for a grant at the Registration Desk, or up to four weeks after the meeting.
Subject to approval, applicants will receive a cheque for the appropriate amount. The maximum amount for travel expenses that will be reimbursed will be at the level of the current Young Persons Railcard fare. If the application does not use up the full amount of the Grant, the balance cannot be transferred to another meeting.

Poster prize winners
The Biochemical Journal kindly sponsored a BJ Structure poster prize of £250 for the best posters displayed at the meeting. The prize was awarded to Richard Hibbert (Nederlands Kanker Instituut, The Netherlands).
The Biochemical Society Young Investigator Poster Prizes were awarded to Dominika Gruszka (University of York, UK) and to Katherine Portman (University of Nottingham, UK).

If you do not receive a submission number, please contact the Conference Office.
Approximately 2 weeks after the abstract submission deadline has passed, you will receive an email informing you whether your poster has been accepted or not and informing you of your poster number and session time.
All poster abstracts will be available to view online two weeks prior to the meeting.

Poster board size: portrait style 6ft (183cm) tall by 3ft (92cm) wide.
Velcro to mount your poster will be provided at the meeting.

Refunds
Cancellations will be accepted in writing until Monday 23 December 2009, and a refund (less £15 administration charge) will be issued.
After this date, neither full nor partial refunds can be given. Please note that refunds of less than £15 cannot be issued.

Official letters of invitation
Official letters of invitation, which are intended to assist with administrative arrangements in certain countries will only be issued when the individual has completed the following criteria:
1) Submitted an abstract which has been approved by the meeting scientific organizer for inclusion into the relevant meeting
2) Sent a letter from the head of their academic department on University headed paper saying why they need to attend the meeting in relation to their research
3) Registered and paid for the meeting Such letters do not imply commitment of financial or other support by the organizers

Harden Conferences
Proceedings and abstracts of Harden Conferences are unpublished, in order to promote the exchange of novel information and ideas. Delegates are asked to respect the closed nature of the conferences, and not to report information discussed via Twitter, Facebook, blogs and similar social networks.
Focused Meetings and Annual Symposia
The Biochemical Society encourages the discussion of its conferences via Twitter, Facebook and similar social networks. In order to promote discussion and the exchange of information, delegates who wish to tweet are asked to use the Biochemical Society hashtag:

Speakers will be made aware of this policy, and have the right to ask delegates not to disseminate their research via the Internet. If a Speaker makes this request, delegates are asked not to discuss the relevant work in this way.
