The Biochemical Society sent six young members to 'Voice of the Future 2012' - an opportunity for scientists aged 16-35 to put their questions to an assembled panel of MPs at the House of Commons. The event, organised by the Society of Biology, took place at Portcullis House on Wednesday 14 March 2012.
The 2013 event will be held on 20 March 2013.
MPs attending the event included the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP; Shadow Minister for Innovation and Science, Chi Onwurah MP; and members of the House of Commons Select Committee on Science & Technology. The Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP, introduced the event.
Places were allocated via a competitive selection process, but questions were also tweeted live to the event. The Society of Biology released a press release about the event here.
Many thanks to our member representatives who attended on the day: Oliver Furzer (John Innes Centre, Norwich); Laurence Potts (University of Manchester); Oliver Summers (University of Greenwich) Samantha Terry (Radboud University Medical Centre Nijmegen, Netherlands); Philip West and Justyna Zaborowska (both University of Oxford).
The event formed part of the National Science and Engineering Week programme.
