Pre-eclampsia, a multi-system disorder particular to human pregnancy, is a leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality and is one of the most difficult challenges facing obstetric medicine. The World Obesity Federation has run a biennial Hot Topics conference on Maternal Obesity since 2013 and, due to the link with clinical and translational research on this theme, this year’s event will be a joint meeting with the Biochemical Society.  The themes of this 2019 meeting in Amsterdam,  will be maternal obesity and maternal hypertensive complications including preeclampsia. The aim of this conference will be to address the independent and joint roles of maternal adiposity and insulin resistance in the aetiology of pre-eclampsia.

During this two-day small-scale conference, the attendants will have the opportunity to hear international senior experts in the field of maternal obesity and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The program is framed to allow for intensive questioning and interaction with the speakers. Also, young and established researchers are invited to present their research related to the themes in posters and oral communication sessions. The best abstracts will be awarded a special prize! The organisers aim for a low impact and healthy meeting focussing on accessibility for public transport, a healthy meeting environment and time for social activities and interaction.

Oral communication slots are available at this meeting. All attendees, particularly researchers in the early stages of their career, are invited to submit a poster abstract for consideration as an oral communication.

Student Bursaries are available for this meeting.
