Effective teaching strategies for Cancer Biology

29 March 2017

University of Greenwich, London, UK

Biochemical Society Training Event

Registration now closed - please contact megan.smart@biochemistry.org

The workshop is FREE to Society members and £90 to non-members.

The molecular biology of cancer is a rapidly growing field which can be used to illustrate many fundamental principles of biology and drug development. Effective teaching in this area can increase students’ employability and help to develop key skills such as critical thinking, analytical competencies and creativity.

This one-day training event is aimed at academics who already teach or will teach the molecular biology of cancer and early-career researchers wishing to pursue a career as cancer biology lecturers in Higher Education. The course will provide a platform to share best practice in teaching fundamental signalling pathways and their application in the development of molecularly targeted drugs. Other topics will include assessment strategies and the development of activities aimed at challenging students and improving their performance.

The workshop is aligned to Descriptor 2 of the UK professional standards framework (UKPSF), so successful completion of the course can be used as evidence when applying to become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). The areas of activities covered are A2, A3, K1, K2, V3.

Everyone attending this training day will receive a FREE copy of: The Molecular Biology of Cancer by Lauren Pecorino.
