Quantitative Proteomics

22—23 May 2017

University of Liverpool in London, London, UK

Biochemical Society Training Event

Discovery proteomics is now relatively straightforward, but the identification of a protein in a complex sample is immediately followed by quantitative questions – how much, how much does the abundance change?

However, there is a rather bewildering choice of approaches to quantitative proteomics. First, the discrimination between absolute and relative quantification, second, the choice of labelling or label-free, third, the selection of appropriate label, fourth the choice between metabolic and chemical labelling and finally, the selection of the most appropriate software for data analysis, the use of appropriate multivariate statistical methods and the importance of adherence to data standards in deposition and reporting of quantitative data.

The course is a substantially enhanced version of previous, highly successful iterations. There are more lectures and there will now be four small group sessions per participant.

This training day will comprise a mixture of formal lectures, delivered by experts in the field, and a series of small group teaching sessions that cover specific aspects. The small group sessions will have a maximum of 10 participants, and attendees will attend four from a choice of 8-10.

By the end of the course, participants will gain a better understanding of the landscape of quantitative proteomics, have an appreciation of the breadth of approaches that can be adopted, and be introduced to the data analysis strategies that accompany quantitative proteomics experiments.
