Our careers roundtable event for early career molecular bioscientists is taking place on Wednesday 5th July!

Timings: 13:00 – 18.30

This free event for late-stage PhD students and early career molecular bioscientists will allow you to discover more about the career opportunities available outside of bench research. Both Biochemical Society members and non-members are welcome at this event.

You will hear from representatives from six interesting and varied science-related career pathways, and there will be a strong emphasis on how scientific skills and experience can be transferred to roles in these sectors.

Representatives from the following sectors will share their knowledge and experience (speakers to be confirmed):

  • Bioinformatics
  • Patent law
  • Science policy
  • Grants and funding
  • Communications
  • Regulatory affairs for clinical trials

The afternoon will comprise of short presentations, followed by roundtable discussions where you will have plenty of opportunity for in-depth questions. The event will be followed by an early evening drinks reception where you can network with the speakers and like-minded early career bioscientists.

Our speakers will bring a wealth of experience form their respective sectors:

  • Professor Dame Melanie Welham (outgoing Chair, BBSRC) – grants and funding
  • Dr Ross Coron (House of Lords) - policy
  • Dr Madalina Mihai (Potter Clarkson PLC) – patent law
  • Dr Gary Male (Oxford Pharmagenesis) - communications
  • Dr Ania Wilczynska (bit.bio) – bioinformatics
  • Dr Julie Warner (Boyd’s Consultants) – regulatory affairs

How to register

An upfront payment of just £30 is required to secure your place and will be fully refunded following your attendance of the event.

While you will hear from and be able to question all the speakers over the course of the afternoon, you will participate in two in-depth roundtable discussions on the careers you are most interested in – please select your top three choices on registration and we will do our best to ensure you are allocated to two of these roundtable sessions.
