A Biochemical Society training event

Educational research helps us understand more about how our students learn, how we can best assess them and how to prepare them for their future.

Publications or significant research output is expected from academics and valued in their career promotion process. The transition from bioscience-related research to education-related research and publications can be hard and there is often little guidance available within institutions.

This training event aims to provide a framework for designing, evaluating, and publishing new research projects in education. In addition, it will provide suggestions for alternative ways to disseminate outputs in education research and provide an opportunity to develop a network of education-focused academics in the bioscience field to share ideas and practices.

Group discussions will form the foundation of the training event, with short talks giving an overview of the topics to discuss. Participants will be encouraged to develop their ideas for an educational research project throughout the training event as well as building a network of potential collaborators.

This training event is for education-focused academics in the biosciences, and not for education specialists. It will also be useful for postgraduate and early career researchers considering a move into an education-focused role.

Session themes:

  • Planning an educational research project
  • Data collection and analysis: qualitative and quantitative method
  • Moving forward with an educational research project

Educational research in the biosciences will be associated with a scientific conference on Evolving molecular bioscience on 25 – 26 May 2023.
