Ribosome profiling is still a relatively new technique. Although many people perform these types of experiments, there is still a small number of groups that have successfully published results and there are currently no standard analysis pipelines in the field.

This two half-day online workshop is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral researchers and will provide an excellent training platform for scientists who are planning their ribosome profiling experiments, and those struggling with either wet lab or computational trouble shooting. It will offer a collaborative environment to share knowledge on many of the technical aspects of ribosome profiling, both practical and bioinformatic. The course will combine short technical presentations with discussions and questions aimed to help both individuals planning or just starting experiments, and those that are in the middle of analysis and would like further support.

Trainers include:

  • Dr Liana Lareau, University of California Berkeley
  • Amanda Mok, University of California, Berkeley
  • Dr Premal Shah, Rutgers University
  • Dr Alex Cope, Rutgers University
  • John Favate, Rutgers University
  • Professor Uwe Ohler, The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology
  • Dr Julie Aspden, University of Leeds
  • Isabel Birds, University of Leeds
  • Dr Edward Wallace, University of Edinburgh
  • Felicity Anderson, University of Edinburgh
  • Dr Mike Jackson, University of Edinburgh EPCC
  • Professor Pasha Baranov, University College Cork
  • Stephen Kiniry, University College Cork

The event will take place right after Translation UK online conference on the 28-30 June 2021. Translation is an essential highly conserved process which is required for the synthesis of proteins in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. This unique annual UK scientific meeting enables discussion of the latest progress in this field and opportunities for fostering collaborations between researchers.Further information about this and how to register can be found on our website.

COVID-19 (coronavirus)

The Biochemical Society has been monitoring developments and advice from the UK Government and World Health Organisation (WHO) since the emergence of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in January. The Biochemical Society has taken the decision to postpone or cancel all of its its face-to-face scientific meetings and training events scheduled in 2020. This difficult decision has been made by the Society’s Council of Trustees in light of the developing situation both within the UK and worldwide. To read more on this click here. This event initially planned for the 25 June 2020 has been rescheduled for the 1-2 July 2021 and it will be held online.
