28-30 June 2021
online conference

28-30 June 2021

Online conference

Abstract deadline: 12 May 2021.

Extended deadline for late-breaking poster abstracts: 24 May 2021. (please note that once they've been accepted, all the submitters will need to send us their online posters by Tuesday 8 June 2021).

Translation is an essential highly conserved process which is required for the synthesis of proteins in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. This unique annual UK scientific meeting enables discussion of the latest progress in this field and opportunities for fostering collaborations between researchers.

This year’s meeting will cover a wide range of topics related to translation, including:

  • mechanistic basis of regulation
  • upstream signal transduction cascades
  • genomic architecture
  • ribosome structure and function
  • structure of translation factors/complexes and regulatory factor
  • genome-wide investigation of translation
  • RNA/tRNA modifications and localisation
The conference is also an important forum for researchers at PhD and postdoctoral levels, providing opportunities to deliver oral and poster presentations to promote their research. As part of the programme, we will host a dedicated Early Career Researcher event to promote further networking amongst this group.

Invited speakers include:

  • Professor Ada Yonath, Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel)
  • Dr Phil Mitchell, Charles River Laboratories (UK)
  • Professor Anne Willis, University of Cambridge (UK)
  • Professor Mani Ramaswami, Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)
  • Dr Dominique Weil, CNRS (France)
  • Dr Premal Shah, Rutgers University (USA)
  • Dr Liana Lareau, UC Berkeley (USA)

The conference will be followed by a two half-day online workshop on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 July 2021 to explore Ribosome Profiling. This online training event will help anyone starting or about to start experiments and need some technical support with this technique. Further information about this and how to register can be found on our website.

COVID-19 (coronavirus)

The Biochemical Society has been monitoring developments and advice from the UK Government and World Health Organisation (WHO) since the emergence of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in January. The Biochemical Society has taken the decision to postpone or cancel all of its its face-to-face scientific meetings and training events scheduled before the end of August 2020. This difficult decision has been made by the Society’s Council of Trustees in light of the developing situation both within the UK and worldwide. To read more on this click here. This event initially planned for the 22-24 June 2020 has been rescheduled for 28-30 June 2021 and it will be held online.
