Time: 14:00 – 15:30 BST
This session, organised as part of the Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week, will showcase the creation of an international network of excellence in mitochondria research bringing together experts in different aspects of mitochondrial discovery research but also generating an interdisciplinary ‘collective’ of international scientists, social scientists, bioethicists, patient groups, clinical groups and design researchers that seek to contribute to the understanding and caring for mitochondrial diseases and dysfunctions using innovative approaches
One essential aspect of the Mitochondria Collective is to empower the scientific collaborations among mitochondrial scientists, by joining forces with patient groups, educators, social scientists and designers to generate a network that goes beyond a traditional collaborative network of one single discipline and crosses over sectors. We envisage this will act as a powerful driver for communication and awareness in creative and engaging ways, stimulate new inquiries and reach new audiences globally.
The event builds on previous activities on ‘Mitochondria and Us’ in Mitochondrial Disease Awareness week 2020, several ‘Crossover workshops’ on interdisciplinary approaches between scientists, social scientists and designers and activities of the Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative, ‘MITO2i’.
