Insights into the role of ribosomal proteins in development

Video, Jul 31 2023

Biochemistry Focus webinar series

60 mins

Part of our dedicated early career series, speakers in this webinar explored the role of ribosomal protein paralogues and how ageing-associated long non-coding RNA 1 slows growth and prolongs chronological lifespan, inhibiting protein translation in fission yeast.

This webinar provided an exciting opportunity to uncover inter-tissue coordination mechanisms related to growth, metabolism and development as well as discover the results of genome-wide genetic interaction analyses of query strains that lack or overexpress the non-coding RNA.

Invited Speakers:

  • Katy Grobicki – 'Ribosomal protein paralogues in germline development'
  • Dr Shajahan Anver – 'Ageing-associated long non-coding RNA 1 (aal1) slows growth and prolongs chronological lifespan by inhibiting protein translation in fission yeast'

This webinar was chaired by Dr Karl Norris (Research Fellow at the University of Leeds).
