Membership FAQs

You can find the answers to some of the frequently asked questions regarding membership below.

Undergraduate

Anyone studying for a first degree in a subject related to the molecular biosciences.
School students over the age of 18 with an interest in continuing on to a molecular bioscience degree.

 

Postgraduate

Anyone who has gained their first degree and is studying for a postgraduate qualification (PhD or MSc) in the molecular biosciences.

 

Early career

Anyone who is within 10 years from the date of gaining a postgraduate qualification in the life sciences.

 

Full

Anyone who obtained a postgraduate qualification more than 10 years ago.

 

Associate

Anyone with a background in molecular bioscience now working in a related profession.

 

Emeritus

Full members (of at least 10 years) may apply upon retirement.

 

Members who choose to take out a multi-year membership will receive a 10% discount on the total membership fee.

Those residing in a low income/lower middle income/upper middle income-developing economy (as classified by the World Bank) are entitled to a 50% discount on their membership fee. See below:

Payments can be made by direct debit or by debit/credit card.

The full range of benefits can be found on our website. These include discounted registration fees to attend our scientific and training events, access to a range of grants and bursaries, invitations to member-only receptions and networking events, opportunities to feed into science policy discussions, and much more.

Biochemical Society membership runs for 12 or 36 months from the date of joining.

For security reasons, you cannot change the email address associated with your account through your online account. Please email membership@biochemistry.org with your current and new email addresses to request a change.

Log in to your membership account and update your details as needed. You are not able to change your email address for security reasons (please email membership@biochemistry.org) if you wish to change your email address.

If your membership lapsed within the last 90 days, please log in to your membership account to renew.

If your membership lapsed over 90 days ago, you will need to re-join as a new member and obtain a new membership start date.

We hope that you are enjoying the benefits of membership and don’t want to cancel, but if you do wish to, email us at membership@biochemistry.org. We are not able to refund any payments already made.

Members of the Biochemical Society receive access to two of the Society’s journals, the Biochemical Journal and Biochemical Society Transactions. To receive your membership access to these two journals, please email membership@biochemistry.org.

You can request a letter confirming your membership and the date that you joined the Society by emailing membership@biochemistry.org. The letter will be emailed to you as a PDF, and you should allow 5 working days for your request to be processed.

Biochemical Society members are entitled to a 50% discount on membership to the Royal Society of Biology. To apply for this discount, please contact the Royal Society of Biology with your Biochemical Society membership number, so that they can verify your eligibility.
