Professor Sonia Rocha appointed as Honorary Treasurer

The Biochemical Society has appointed a new Honorary Treasurer, Professor Sonia Rocha, who will be taking over from Professor Frank Sargent when his term ends on 31 December 2025.

Sonia is a cell and molecular biologist with an interest in oxygen sensing and signaling in health and disease and was formerly an Executive Dean of the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology, University of Liverpool.

Sonia has a long and engaged history with the Society. She has been a member since 2004 and has been involved in many of our activities, including currently sitting on the Biochemical Journal editorial board and she was awarded The Sir Philip Randle Lecture in the Biochemical Society 2025 Awards.

Following her appointment, Sonia said:

"I am honoured to be appointed to the position of Honorary Treasurer at the Biochemical Society. I am committed to upholding transparency and accountability while supporting the Society’s strategy and future growth and look forward to working closely with the trustees and committee members."
