Diabetes Week 2026
News, Jun 09 2026
Diabetes Week is a dedicated time to raise awareness, improve understanding, and highlight the research shaping the future of diabetes care. As part of this, one of our Clinical Science Associate Editors, Christian Delles (University of Glasgow) shares his perspective on the current landscape of diabetes research, offering insights into the field.
"Diabetes Week 2026 highlights the enormous progress in diabetes research. The past decade brought us better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of type 1 diabetes, new technologies to optimise blood sugar control and the detailed description of links between obesity and type 2 diabetes. These achievements are paralleled by the development of powerful drugs that not only improve glycaemic control but also protect other organs including the heart and kidneys.
Still, diabetes remains a major healthcare challenge with increasing prevalence and incidence worldwide. People living with diabetes still experience stigma and daily obstacles that require both individual and societal solutions.
Our authors contribute enormously to research into diabetes, and in honour of Diabetes Week 2026 we are delighted to showcase some of the most exciting examples of such research.”
We're pleased to bring together relevant content from our Clinical Science journal.
