FEBS Congress 2028
News, Aug 26 2025
We’re proud to share that we have unanimously won the bid to host the FEBS Congress in the UK or Ireland in 2028.
FEBS, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies, holds an annual international congress, which moves around Europe each year. As one of the largest bio-congresses in Europe, attracting over 2000 attendees, the Congress provides a platform for international scientific exchange, networking, and showcases the newest developments in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related areas.
This opportunity to host alongside a renowned charity organisation such as FEBS is a reminder of the incredible work we do at the Society. Not only through supportive funding from our grants and bursaries, the sharing of knowledge through events and webinars, but also the publication of research benefiting from our Open Access decision within our publishing arm, Portland Press. These qualities align with FEBS’ own twin commitments to high-quality publications and the promotion of molecular biosciences through similar initiatives.
The UK and Ireland continue to be major contributors to global bioscience research across an ever-increasing breadth of specialisms. We’re keen to show the collaborative, inclusive and welcoming environment which awaits delegates attending the FEBS Congress 2028.
Our reputation in science, innovation, and education provides a distinctive and welcoming setting for cross-border dialogue. Bringing a European congress to the UK offers not only a fantastic opportunity to foster international collaboration and showcase scientific excellence but also the opportunity to strengthen ties between UK, Irish-based, and European researchers.
There are many opportunities for members to be involved in this project, and we encourage anyone interested in being part of it to respond to this survey.
This is a huge achievement, with many thanks to the dedicated time and effort of our Society members and colleagues who put together the bid. Our hope is that this partnership will inspire local scientists throughout every career-stage and promote interaction, understanding and cooperation through science.
Keep an eye on our website and social platforms to stay up to date with future updates. The exact city for the Congress destination will be agreed at the end of the year.
