News, Oct 30 2025

The Biochemical Society is delighted to announce that Professor Nik Morton will be taking on the role of Interim Honorary Meetings Secretary, following Professor Lisa Chakrabarti stepping down on 17 October 2025.

We thank Lisa for her commitment to the Society since 2013, helping to deliver our conference programme in support of our strategic objectives. Lisa started in 2013 in Research Area VI – Biological Systems, where she took over as Chair in 2018 and became Chair of Basic Biosciences Theme Panel and a Trustee in 2022. Lisa has held the role of interim Honorary Meetings Secretary since the start of this year.

We welcome Nik into the role from 20 October 2025. Nik has been involved in the Society’s events and training programme since 2018, starting as a member of Research Area III – Energy and Metabolism, becoming Chair in 2020 and stepping into the role of interim Basic Bioscience Theme Panel Chair in 2025. He will bring his knowledge of the community into this role to help continue the important work undertaken by our committees to drive our conference programme forward to disseminate knowledge and build on collaborations.

Of his appointment, Nik said:

"I’m delighted to be appointed as Interim Honorary Meetings Secretary and I look forward to working with fellow Trustees and staff to continue delivering a diverse programme of events for the community. Lisa leaves a lasting legacy of dedication and impact, and I wish her the best for the future."

Staff and committees look forward to working closely with Nik in his new role over the coming months.
