We’re looking for our next Vice President

News, Oct 15 2025

The Biochemical Society is currently recruiting for their next Vice President to help drive the future of the Society and shape our activities for the benefit of the whole community. The successful applicant will complete six months of shadowing before they take over from Professor Richard Reece when he steps up to the position of President at the next Annual General Meeting, following the retirement of Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow.

This role, with a 3-year term, has evolved from the position of ‘Society Chair’ as part of our governance review and is an exciting opportunity to be involved across the Society’s activities as we head into our next strategic phase.

Acting as line manager to the CEO, Vice President is a vital role within the Society, helping to shape our strategy and vision for the future. Chairing the People, Remuneration and Nominations Committee the postholder will work alongside other committee members to oversee and appraise the viability of requests relating to plans, proposals, staffing and working arrangements, as well as reporting for this committee to the Council of Trustees.

As a Trustee of the Society and Director of Portland Press Board the Vice President will work in collaboration with other Trustee and Board members to support board discussions and decisions, and as a member of the Audit and Finance Committee they will jointly monitor the Group’s financial performance and annual audit process.

If you’re a member of the Society and have a strong drive to support our mission and vision into the future we’d be keen to hear from you. Full eligibility criteria can be found in the role description
