Biochemical Society announces new committees

News, Dec 02 2025

Earlier this year we announced changes to our governance framework, undertaken following a comprehensive governance review. These changes allow us to bring the framework in line with our new strategic direction and take into account recommendations of best practice across the sector.

As part of the implementation of agreed changes, we have successfully launched two new committees, created by merging some of our former committees to create Audit & Finance Committee and People, Nominations & Remuneration Committee.

The merger of our Audit and Finance Committees provides the Society with an effective structure to manage risk, finance and audit responsibilities, removing previous areas of duplication and supporting effective succession planning.

Our new People, Remuneration and Nominations Committee brings together our former Executive Management Committee and Nominations Panel, allowing people-centered decisions and oversight to be overseen by one central forum with clear lines of authority.

Prof Richard Reece, Vice President of the Society, said, “Bringing our former Executive Management Committee and Nomination Panel together strengthens alignment, eliminates duplication, and improves the efficiency of our decision-making processes, ensuring we continue to provide robust oversight of related decisions and policies.”

The merger of the existing committees will allow us to streamline processes and involve the right people at the right time in decision making. We thank those who are on these committees and look forward to working closely with them on the future direction of the Society.
